Emergency Department Self Harm Attendances

Summary

  • During 2015, there were 3745 Emergency Department attendances for self harm. This is likely to be an underestimate of the true incidence, due to data quality issues associated with the injury intent field in the EDDS dataset.
  • 15-17 year old females have the highest rate of attendances at 600.2 per 100,000 (2013-2015 average; Figure 1). The highest rate in males occurs in 18-24 year olds (261.6 per 100,000).
